Travel By Train To From Newark DE
Dated: April 7 2019
People traveling to and from Newark by train can do so via the Newark Regional Transportation Center located on South College Avenue at Mopar Drive. In addition to Amtrak service, Newark is served by the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) commuter rail to Philadelphia.
I am sure you have noticed workers have been improving and expanding the parking lot. The old station is gone, and now are building a pedestrian bridge over one of the tracks and constructing a new elevated boarding platform that will be compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act. And I noticed there are charging stations for electric cars as well.
Located in the northeast corner of the STAR Campus, the new train station will allow students, employees and other visitors to access the campus via Amtrak, SEPTA regional rail from Philadelphia and, eventually, MARC trains from Maryland and Washington, D.C.
The site already houses UD’s Health Sciences complex, and the technology company SevOne. The STAR Tower office building is open, and work is also underway on UD’s Biopharmaceutical building and a research and development headquarters for Chemours.
This new train station will be Newark’s first impression to those who travel to our community. Hundreds of commuters pass through here each day, and this new station will ensure that Newark is welcoming, comfortable and safe. This is going to make a big difference for the city of Newark and the STAR Campus and, in doing so, it will be a big economic lift for the state of Delaware; the entire project will be completed in 2021.
